On any given morning across America, pancakes are whipped up in high-end restaurants, diners, and home kitchens alike. This American favorite has been a breakfast staple for decades, inspiring countless renditions of the classic form.
Yet, making pancakes has frequently been a challenge for cooks. Step outside of the pancake mix box and try this easy, homemade recipe that will impress even the pickiest of guests when they are cooked perfectly on the American Griddle.
(Makes approximately eight pancakes)
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 and 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons salted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Toppings of choice (maple syrup, fruit, butter, etc.)
Stir together dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar) in a large bowl.
Add milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, and whisk until smooth.
Heat griddle to medium heat.
Pour 1/4 cup batter into circles to create several pancakes at a time.
Flip pancakes when bubbles appear over the pancake and the edges begin to turn light golden brown.
Cook until the other side is equally golden and then serve immediately with toppings of choice.
